Part of our commitment to developing North East talent is to create opportunities and provide mentoring and support for early career independent theatre artists in the North East.
Mortal Fools believe in making theatre for a social purpose, so our professional productions also involve strong community collaboration and involvement.
We have two productions currently in development:
MELVA [working title] By Danielle Burn
Melva is a worrit. Well, that’s what her Grandma Pebble calls her anyway. Melva isn’t 100% sure what a worrit is, but she thinks it’s something to do with worrying. Melva worries quite a lot you see: she worries about bumps and bruises, she worries about getting things wrong, but most of all she worries about worrying!
When Grandma Pebble mysteriously doesn’t come home one day, Melva is the most worried she’s ever been. Will Melva be able to overcome her worry worms in order to save Grandma Pebble.
‘Melva’ is an adventure story for those who are scared of adventures.

STUPID By Sian Armstrong
Stupid tells the journey of one woman’s attempt to find a formula that will fix her world.
Stupid’s world has been turned upside down. Everything is broken. She has a theory, a theory to fix it – relatively speaking. Come and join her in a quest to find the answers, solve the problems, to look out at the world as it really is – perhaps then we can find some perspective.
Expect humour, spoken word, colourful projection, live drawing and some light bulb moments of clarity; where realism collides fantastically with escapism.
Suitable for ages 14+
Coming to you November 2017
Sian has worked as part of the Mortal Fools Facilitation team since February 2016, and has been involved in both our Youth Theatre and Schools Programmes. We are thrilled to now be supporting her own professional work.
