Brainstorm, April 2018
Brainstorm was a fast paced, dynamic and physical theatre show created for and by young people, exploring how their brains work and why they're designed to be imperfectly perfect.
Using script developed by Ned Glasier, Emily Lim and Company Three in collaboration with neuroscientists, Director Helen Ferguson and an ensemble cast of young people delved into their personal experiences to explore their relationships with their parents and themselves, whilst making sense of the world around them.

In a dystopian world, not too far ahead of our own, earth is broken and people are suffering, while a hidden power watches their every move. Against the odds, a boy and a girl find each other amidst the chaos.
Mortal Fools, with Collingwood School & Media Arts College, present an abridged version of Shakespeare’s classic story of two star crossed lovers, striving to be together in a world that wants to keep them apart. |
This performance was part of Future Ready, a programme developed from three years' partnership between Mortal Fools and Collingwood School. This project uses theatre-making as a vehicle to develop confidence, aspirations and social and emotional skills of young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), to prepare them for the transition from education into adult life.
Out There, July 2018

We created a one-off outdoor theatre production set against the backdrop of the lush Northumberland countryside. Wearing silent disco headphones, our audiences went on an outdoor theatre walk to hear stories and see performances about what it’s like to be out there; young and living in Northumberland today. The project was commissioned as part of Northumberland County Council's Great Northumberland programme.

Summer Scriptwriting Workshops, August 2018
For three days, our Mortal Fools facilitators worked with a group of young people from Prudhoe and the surrounding area on a scriptwriting masterclass. The workshops covered the basics of scriptwriting, looking at everything from how to structure a script, to creating their own unique characters.
At the end of the three days, all the young people's family and friends were invited along to hear a short read through of each of their scripts, performed by young performers from our 2018 production of Brainstorm.
