Led by Mortal Fools and funded by Arts Council England, the Co-Creation Exchange is a network of committed cross-sector partners, who share the core aim of developing and advocating for high-quality co-created youth theatre and drama opportunities in the North of England.
Through partnerships and exchanges of skills, knowledge, and activities, it creates high-quality and socially engaged theatre-based opportunities for young people who face barriers to engagement - enabling young people to co-create with professional artists and treating them as artists in their own right. Building on the success of the Young People's Theatre Exchange pilot, the Co-Creation Exchange gives young people a platform underpinned by conscious, purposeful reconnection, as we learn to live with the pandemic.
This project also is the only one of its kind in the North East!

Co-Creation Exchange partners can engage with:
Mutual Support and Learning
Developing our approaches to young audiences and participants, our practices, and our companies - through meetings, visits, shadowing, sharing events, and working with artists.
Creative Exchange Residency
Collaboratively-delivered creative exchange residencies, involving young people and staff from Mortal Fools and the partner organisation, sharing practice and co-creating together.
Training
Partner organisations or guest artists that we commission to deliver specific areas of training/CPD for artists and practitioners (e.g. writing, devising, youth work, inclusivity).
Programmed Company
Partners with creative work to share (e.g. live productions, films, resources) are programmed for our core groups and other young people's groups in the network - through go-and-sees, online watch parties, workshops, and sharing events.
Audience Development
Sharing each other’s work to help reach new audiences, and exploring shared/mutual goals for audience development (e.g. theatre companies with productions to tour, or venues wishing to reach more young audiences).
