At Fools Fest 2022, over 200 people joined Mortal Fools Youth Theatre for two nights of community celebration and revelry.
Fools Fest 2022 was a celebration of all things creative; where the young people were in charge and anything was possible. It showcased a variety of mini-performances, created and performed by our young people across Autumn 2022 - including theatre, film, improv, music, foley, and more!
From folklore and fairy tales, to music and monologues, over 80 young people performed, led the festivities, and delighted audiences in Ashington and Tyne Valley.
Fools Fest was a very successful pilot - it proved so popular with our audiences that it became a regular part of our annual Mortal Fools programme and happens annually every December.

"It was outstanding, my daughter totally loved it - keep up the fantastic work!"
"An enjoyably entertaining evening. We especially enjoyed the improvised sections - and bringing the audience in to choose themes, to show that the scenes were truly improvised by the young people on stage."
"I really enjoyed your event and saw real talent in a lot of the performers."
"Excellent show. My daughter thrives within a Mortal Fools environment."

Fools Fest 2022: Tyne Valley was an evening of youth-led performance & revelry, curated as part of #HW1900 Festival.
This festival night brought people together to celebrate creativity, heritage, and fun, and showcased a variety of mini performances co-created with artists and performed by young people.
Our Tyne Valley young people worked with team Mortal Fools to theme the event around the Saturnalia Festival - specifically, the festival’s tradition of role reversal. Young people hosted the event and curated (and created) the content: contemporary responses to the rich heritage of Hadrian's Wall. This included discovering a secret world of insects living on Hadrian’s Wall, an adventure using a time-travelling phone, and celebrating the voices of young people and communities growing up along the wall.
Fools Fest 2022: Tyne Valley was supported by Hadrian's Wall 1900 Community Grants, made possible by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

“It was fantastic to be a part of the Hadrian’s Wall 1900 Festival. This commissioned event gave us the opportunity to co-create something really special with children and young people in the Tyne Valley for the community. It enabled Mortal Fools to celebrate Hadrian’s Wall rich heritage with a contemporary twist and explored what it means to be a young person growing up along the Wall.”
