Melva: 2019-20 Schools Tour
Listen to Headteacher Jacqueline Mowat talk about her experience of having the Melva project in Hareside Primary School.
“I love Melva. It shows how to solve problems you’re having. It gives you solutions that help almost any problem. It helps you understand mental health, realise that you can face your fears, and when to tell someone that you are worried.” - Lily, aged 10

“My favourite thing about doing the play has been making lots of new friends. Sometimes that’s difficult to do, but because it’s so fun, it makes it really easy.” - Future Ready Cast Member

"They [the teaching staff] have seen what some of these kids can do in different settings. One of the lads especially excelled and did well who wouldn’t have normally. This can hopefully come into his coping strategies.” - Participating Teaching Staff
|
"They [the cast] have had ownership and pride in what they have done. They have developed new friendships - one of the pupils who struggles with social skills and is often isolated became part of the group and belonged” - Participating Teaching Staff
|
“The students have developed self-belief, concentration, focus, new friendships, humour and how to support each other. Plus the reading scores in my group have jumped up!” - Participating Teaching Staff

Duchess Community High Shool, Alnwick: Pilot project to achieve Explore Arts Award
"The pilot project with Mortal Fools demonstrated clearly to our leadership team and wider colleagues, the impact high quality engagement could have on our priority students. The relationships, care, support, skills and toolkit Mortal Fools established over the 4 workshops was second to none. The students were alert, energised, articulate and engaged - they placed trust and respect in the Mortal Fools practitioners and responded amazingly well to their direction. To put into context, the same young men struggle to stay or engage in class for more than 10 mins.
They ended the workshop with both an Arts Award qualification and a new self-belief. This would not have been possible without the high quality of provision offered by Mortal Fools."
