Mortal Fools and Collingwood School and Media College present...

ROMEO AND JULIET

13th - 28th June

In a dystopian world, not too far ahead of our own, earth is broken and people are suffering, while a hidden power watches their every move. Against the odds, a boy and a girl find each other amidst the chaos.

Mortal Fools, with Collingwood School & Media Arts College, present an abridged version of Shakespeare’s classic story of two star crossed lovers, striving to be together in a world that wants to keep them apart.

“I thought that Romeo and Juliet was superb. I have seen hundreds of school performances over the last 35 years but this took pupil performance to a new level. I told so many people about it the following morning that they became bored hearing about it. If I'd seen that at somewhere like the Edinburgh Fringe, I'd have been a happy chap knowing that I'd spent my money well given the choices available.

Pass on my congratulations and thanks to all of your team for their time, effort , expertise and patience in drawing performances like the ones that I saw out of some of our more vulnerable young people.”

Dean Jackson, Director of Education and Skills
Northumberland County Council

This performance was part of 'Future Ready', a programme developed from three years' partnership between Mortal Fools and Collingwood School. This project uses theatre-making as a vehicle to develop confidence, aspirations and social and emotional skills of young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), to prepare them for the transition from education into adult life.

In 2018, we were excited to tour this production to three venues in the North East as part of our development of this programme.
