FLUX DIGITAL

Figuring it out and fitting in; what makes you, you?
12 unique young voices come together on film, to explore what it means to question your identity in a world that feels determined to put you in a box. Devised and performed by the young people living through this reality right now, join them in discovering that there is freedom in the flux - and that labels are for bottles, not people.

Flux 2022 was a contemporary theatre show, devised and performed by Mortal Fools Ensemble Young Company 2021/22 - showcasing an original soundtrack, bold set design, and the incredible talent, insights, and lived experiences of young people. We toured it in April 2022 to sell-out audiences, and filmed a version at YMCA Northumberland, working with our friends Von Fox Promotions. The film version is available now for all to watch in your own setting and/or to host a screening for a group of young people.
“Flux gives the audience a window into some of the pressures young people are facing today. It was an uplifting and empowering performance that left us feeling positive. The key point is you don't have to have it all figured out. Just be yourself!”

The film version of our 2022 Flux show is available to watch now. Flux is a positive and empowering film, grounded in the reality of life for young people exploring their identity and making decisions about their future.
Binary breakers, stereotype smashers, convention clingers, people pleasers, distracted dreamers, ally activists, hopeful homebodies, evolving explorers, GOAT gamers, fashionable friends, Tik-Toking trendsetters, simping stans, radical rebels, the woke and the weird.

Universally unique and all welcome here.
You are one of us. We see you. Join us?

“We’ve made a film that I think will be interesting and engaging to all sorts of people: Flux is energetic, mysterious, and above all, brave.”

The Flux film is available to all and free to watch. However, if you are able, we would appreciate donations – to support our Mortal Fools Young People’s Programmes. We recommend £4 per individual/family and £20 per community group setting.

Any donation to Mortal Fools, big or small, helps us reach more children and young people at a time when the demand for our work is ever increasing. We support and work with children and young people, keen to make sense of the world around them and of their identity, develop new skills, and to have collective creative experiences in a safe space and peer group.
“Flux really captures the challenges that young people face. A very thought-provoking production that had me laughing and feeling emotional. Each character had a compelling point of view to tell and each actor portrayed their part excellently.”

“I enjoyed Flux! It was such a fun show and a lot of it really resonated with me.”
- Flux audience member
“As a parent and as an advocate for young people I feel the themes and messages were strongly put forward and explained. I am so pleased that this is available to watch more widely as a film.

Young people will benefit in the knowledge that others struggle as they do, parents, teachers and advocates of young people will get pointers on how they can adapt their behaviour. I encourage all to watch it – it’s brilliant and so poignant!”
- Flux audience member
“It really was incredible. I felt like the cast were speaking directly to me; it was a bit emotional to be honest.”
- Flux audience member
“The performance was great, it delivered a powerful message about being a young person, bringing to life the challenges, demands, excitement and angst of emergent adulthood. That the production was co-produced made it all the more meaningful. An interesting story told well.”

ABOUT MORTAL FOOLS
ENSEMBLE YOUNG COMPANY

The Flux film was co-created by Ensemble Young Company 2021/22 and professional artists and theatre makers.

Ensemble Young Company is Mortal Fools' dedicated youth theatre group for people aged 13-19 (School Years 9+). Ensemble members work together over a prolonged time period to devise a new piece of theatre or film (in this case, Flux), which we then share to our Mortal Fools network and Co-Creation Exchange Network partner venues.

Our Ensemble Young Company features young people from both Tyne Valley and Ashington. We welcome new and returning members to join us each year, usually starting in the Autumn. You can register your interest in joining Ensemble Young Company at any time across the year.

Head to our Ensemble Young Company page to find out more about the group and their current project.
